Highway Construction Alert

Because of highway improvements currently under way, the College Avenue/Walnut Street exit from southbound Indiana Highway 37 into Bloomington is expected to be closed through May of 2014.

This map shows the recommended detour, on Indiana Highways 45/46 Bloomington. After taking this exit, proceed east on the Indiana 45/46 Bypass to Indiana University.


Welcome to Indiana University Bloomington's Commencement website. IU Bloomington holds Commencement exercises in May and December. There is no summer ceremony.

May Commencement

May Commencement, also called Spring Commencement, takes place in three sessions in Assembly Hall. In 2014, the Graduate Commencement Ceremony will be held on Friday, May 9, from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

On Saturday, May 10, 2014, the Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony will be held in two sessions, one from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and one from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (All schools with undergraduate degree programs are assigned to the 10 a.m. session except for the College of Arts and Sciences, which is assigned to the 3 p.m. session.)

December Commencement

December Commencement, also called Winter Commencement, will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2014, at 10 a.m. in Assembly Hall. There is a single ceremony. Students who have completed requirements between September and December are eligible to participate in Winter Commencement.
