IU Bloomington holds Commencement ceremonies in May and December. There is no summer ceremony.
May Commencement actually takes place at two ceremonies, one in the morning and one in the afternoon (schools are assigned to one or the other). Degrees are conferred only at these graduations, although each school also holds its own recognition event. You will find details in “Info & Schedule.”
December Commencement, often called Winter Commencement, usually takes place on the Saturday after Finals Week. There is a single ceremony, usually in the morning.
Students who complete degree requirements between January and August may participate in May Commencement. Students who complete requirements between September and December participate in winter Commencement.
Commencement is a joyous occasion at IU Bloomington. We hope this website will enrich the experience.
